One of the most important factors is whether we are interested in the degree we choose. If you would like to pursue a degree in Marketing because you find the field interesting, you should be aware of the traits you should have or develop in order to have a successful career.
In a dynamic and ever changing world, Marketing professionals need to address the changes and try to keep up with them in order to meet the demands of different kinds of markets and customers and to avoid falling behind.
What is Marketing?
Marketing involves all the activities companies undertake to attract, retain and maintain relationships with customers by selling products, goods or services that meet their wants and needs.
There are many activities that make up the process of marketing, from advertising a product to making sure the customers are happy with the products and services the company offers, which are meant to make sure the strategies implemented are working and that the company is meeting the needs of its customers.
Marketing professionals are meant to work hard to get to know what the tendencies are, what it is that customers want, how they want it, among others. All this is implemented in order to learn more about potential clients (to attract their attention by providing them with what they want and about current clients (to retain them by keeping satisfying their needs and wants)
Some of the activities that are performed in the Marketing process are advertising, selling, and delivering products to consumers or other businesses. Promotions are targeted to certain audiences and may involve celebrity endorsements, catchy phrases or slogans, memorable packaging or graphic designs and overall media exposure.
Now that you have a general understanding of what marketing is and what you would be doing as a marketer, you need to know if you are cut out for the job.
First, you need to ask yourself: Why do I want to study Marketing?
Before deciding whether or not to pursue a degree in Marketing, you should be sure that it is the right career choice for you. Getting to know yourself and learning what it is that you want and expect is a very important step that will set you in the right direction. It is important that you ask yourself whether this is the right decision to make if you are to enjoy your career and make a good living out of it.
Marketing can be a dynamic, exciting and challenging career, but if you are not right for the job, you will probably have a hard time finding your path through it.
Other questions you should ask yourself are: What does it take to be a successful Marketing professional? Do I have it?
Marketing isn’t for everyone. It can be a rewarding and exciting career but you need to have certain traits and characteristics if you are to make it in the marketing world.
Marketing professionals, in general, have certain characteristics in common that allow them to excel at what they do and find new ways to allow the company they work for to be successful. Among their characteristics are the following:
- The ability to understand when to be a leader and when to be a follower
- The ability to work in teams
- Be very detail oriented
- Stay up-to-date on trends
- Be able to understand what customers need and want
- Be a planner and be open to last minute changes
- And many more.
If you have some of these traits, you are made for this career. On the other hand, if you don’t have these traits but you still feel like studying Marketing, it doesn’t mean that you won’t have any chance at succeeding, it just means you will have to work a little harder to get where you want.
